Part of the backlash against the two runners was bigotry. But part of it was the inclusion of politics in the Olympic games. The Olympics is supposed to be pure sport, and successive Olympic games have become more and more politicized, commercial and ignoble. We now have athletes cheating, and defending it. We've seen whole programs cheat, judges in collusion, and one very public bombing. What would we do to reclaim the purity of sports?

Politics are a fact in the Olympics. From choosing where to meet for the games to choosing whether to go or not depending on where. I hate it but I have no solution other than the "pie in the sky" attitude of "can't we all just get along long enough to enjoy a game or two?"
