  As a self-indulgent athlete, both by birth and experience, Mr. Noah cannot be expected to abide by rules established by the NBA and its member teams. After all, he has the RIGHT to do any damn thing he wants, and those who try to impose rules (for the obviously selfish reasons of selling more tickets, attracting larger TV audiences, and making more money) can just go screw themselves. Mr. Noah has the civil right to screw up his brain, his central nervous system, and any other part of his being that he chooses.

    Although even government studies (via National Institute of Medicine) have found that marijuana does nt destroy your brain, and that brain cells, like any others, regenerate. Also, hs bills are paid, his responsibilities met, and he was not endangering anyone. What is the issue here? Oh, he was in Florida? Money, money, money..... right, Jeb?

        Yeah, the weed has really been holding him back from doing the important things in life, hasn't it?

        His brain and central nervous system are so messed up he can only compete in NBA basketball. Considering he was a first-round pick, that weed is stopping him.

        Those awards from a few years ago only prove it.

        Wait, he's gotta be fried, he chose to become a FRENCH citizen last year

        What kind of message does this send to the CHILDREN??? That you can actually ACHEIVE even if you use marijuana? Well, as long as you're not some alcoholic cokehead whose CIA dad put your moron butt in Yale so his pals can push you through.

        I for one would not want my kids to play pro basketball. I think they need the 40 hours a week behind a desk or a counter. Maybe something where they're tested for drugs so they can really achieve, like driving a garbage truck.

              I commented about a self-indulgent athlete who has no regard for "rules" imposed by his employers or others. One of our resident boy geniuses laid the drug enforcement problem at the feet of Florida's former governor, which is quite a stretch (if you are capable of thinking about it). Then a second boy genius chimed in with a left-handed justification of drug use in general--obviously (to him) if a fellow can make millions playing basketball, he doesn't have a problem (which is a lot closer to what I actually posted to start with, but which also avoids the point about living by rules).

              I understand that very little is actually "clear" to you, baddad59, so I am providing this clarification for you and the other lost individuals out there. Enjoy your televised cartoons.

            Why don't we look at the fact of this case... Noah was picked up by the cops for public drinking first, then they found some marijuana.

            There's no debate anywhere in the world that alcohol use is worse to society and the user than marijuana use.

            More than half of americans 45 and younger have used marijuana.

            The last two Presidents of the United States were elected despite the fact that they had past use of marijuana.

            People who use marijuana, even chronically, "will not suffer any lasting physical or mental harm. ... Overall, by comparison with other drugs used mainly for 'recreational' purposes, cannabis could be rated to be a relatively safe drug."

            50000 people die from alcohol poisoning every year in the US, and 500000 people die from TOBACCO smoke-related diseases, while there is NOT A SINGLE DEATH ATTRIBUTED TO MARIJUANA USE.

              The facts are that young Mr. Noah, although aware of the rules, chose not to conform to their restrictions. Are you trying to justify that fact, which involves contractual fraud and contempt for established standards, by creating a myth that smoking marijuana is actually GOOD for you?

              You see, pinhead, you have not even addressed the point of my post. Is that because you are personally dedicated to the smelly weed?

    They don't even drug test for marijuana in the NBA. He won't spend a second behind bars - and neither do most first time offenders. Has any athlete caught "in possession" of personal amounts EVER spent time behind bars? Hell no!

    Now, if they get caught with a few hundred pounds, that's a different story.

    No drug should be illegal or even regulated, beyond age of purchase and purity standards. They are just commodities like cabbages or furniture, and the gov't should just collect taxes on them in the same way as they do those two things. I don't even favor a prescription system. A prescription should be nothing more than a written opinion that this particular drug is what you should buy, and how to use it. Not permission to buy.

  I agree with engineer that Marijuana shouldn't be illegal because (IMO)it no more (or less) harmful then alcohol, cigarettes or prescription drugs if abused. That said....

  I realize that it is too much to ask that people ACTUALLY take responsibility for THEIR actions and those in their employ.

  As long as it's 'profitable' for teams to 'look the other way' when players break the rules AND THE LAW lives will continue to be ruined for years to come.
