Athletes are pampered in regards to behavior because of their athletic abilities and are in some ways stunted behaviorally because of it. But no excuse for being a criminal and getting favored treatment in the punishment they are given, if at all. And I say this even though I was an athlete until I graduated high school.

It is the Media that "elevates" these scums to "celebrity" status. Look at that rapist Kobe Bryant for example!. How come all these "stars" in MLB & NBA are always arrested outside strip clubs and nude bars? They lead the numbers in DWI & DUI.

If only every sport had gentlemen like in Golf & Cricket!

The problem is not just with athletes. Anyone with enough money that can get the best lawyers can get lighter sentences. Then there are the judges who lower the sentences where they can. This is counterbalanced by prosecutors who charge when they shouldn't and put people in jail who shouldn't be there. Like that prosecutor destroyed the Duke teams reputation. If it had not been so public and the defense lawyers good they could have gone to jail. Hard to find a balance. Part of the reason for "beyond a reasonable doubt".

In things like this I remember a lawyer show that started with the quote "Democracy is a very bad form of government. But I ask you to remember this, all the others are so much worse."
