  Well done. I have a friend that is very well skilled in Capo, and I have studied some Escrima.

  My first and only love though is Shao Lin. Next year I will be heading to China to spend some time at the southern temple working on my Tang Lang.

    So you must be an expert in martial arts, do you think that Shao Lin is the origin of every martial art?

      I really can't say fo sure whether or not it was the first as I have not researched the history of all art forms. However, I do know that Kara Te' and Tae Kwon Do did originate from disciples of Shao Lin Tao. Shaolin has also been around for nearly 1500 years. The monk, Bodhidharma (aka Ta Mo and Daruma) first came to the Young Forest Temple (Shao Lin Tsu) and was very upset at the failing health of the monks. He then created the 49 stances that are the basis for all Shao Lin kung fu.

      I myself have been practicing since I was a young teen. Probably about 14-15 years now. Although it was not until about 5 years ago that I really stepped up my training.

      The Greeks had Pankration and it was deadly. The warriors of Alexander the Great used it. There is a tale that when they ended up in India and his army decided they had had enough they rested there for a time. They taught it to some Indians. A man from India went to China and was sent to the Shao Lin temple. He taught them self defense that became Kung Fu. No one knows for sure but some want to believe that the man who started Kung Fu had learned a form of Pancration. So did the Greek start this? Actually every army has had a form of martial arts.

        Tae Kwan Do was created after the end of WW2. General Choi Hong Hi created it as an amalgamation of the older Korean martial arts, Karate, and Kung Fu. After the Korean War General Choi went to North Korea and showed his techniques. The World Taekwondo Federation was so angry they kicked him out. He started a second Tae Kwon Do organization the International Taekwondo Federation. All paths to Tae Kwan Do were influenced or descendants of Kung Fu.

        Actually there are several different types of Kung Fu. Northern China and Southern China are two major groups and there are different styles in each major group.

        I learned all this while studying to create a web site for a martial arts business.

  As the Phillipino said, in a real fight there are no referees or judges. Fighting is brutal and there is no one technique, school or style that is superior to others. Avoid confrontations if possible but use what ever means available to survive.

  Not really crazy - only utterly pragmatic. No hanky-pankying around. Systema's truly top notch. Know some of the guys doing (and actually running) it: great people, love the lot.
