I remember sitting in front of our old Zenith watching this on the floor of our house and shaking my head in disbelief as this tiny woman shook the world.

Amazing and magnificent.

I thought her real girl power moment was playing Peter Pan ;P

Actually, she came through in the clutch, and those are the moments that inspire the rest of us to our own efforts as well.

Right on. Remember this is the vault that won it for her, but she did it one more time (another perfect 10) and that sealed the deal.

I never agreed with her politics, but this is one of those things that transcends that.

I also realize this isn't really news and I know many people here on the 'Scape might not have even been born when this happened, but her courage (she had a bad knee injury earlier) and her ability to get it done when it needed doing should inspire us all, just as you say DR.

Yeah that MLR is a hero Bkumm.

MAN! Did you see the disappointment, and disbelieve of her Romanian opponent? WOO HOO!

She thought she had it clinched! That said it all!

=oD

I wonder what she's up to now? Anybody know? I heard she's a coach in her home town, and gonna do the same in the upcoming Olympics.

My granddaughter just returned from a gymnastics competition in South America. She's vacationing in Myrtle Beach right now but I intend to call her and have her watch this. A beautiful vault and she absolutely nailed the landing! Having gone to numerous gymnastics meets to watch my granddaughter compete, I can appreciate the technical beauty of this vault.

That's wonderful, I hope she did well. Also, you may want to check out YouTube and get Mary Lou Retton's floor exercise for this same Olympics. That was also a perfect 10. I've never seen anything like it since.
