LAS VEGAS -- NBA All-Star Weekend in Vegas was an unmitigated failure, and any thoughts of taking the extravaganza to New Orleans in 2008 are total lunacy

Let me say that I was in Vegas and felt lucky that I left Friday morning before all the NBA gangstas rolled into town. It was clear that the Vegas yahoo police were not prepared for the legions of idiots that showed up. Even on Friday morning, wheeling my luggage through the Venetian casino I had to deal with flocks of rude, low life jerks, walking around on cell phones with little intention of exercising any degree of courtesy to anyone. Yup, there I was, a 56 year old gray haired man, wheeling my bags through the lobby when two different "gentlemen" intentionally stopped directly in front of me and looked me in the eye which forced me to steer around them. I've been there before; raised in an ethnically diverse city. I know all the signs. Takes quite a big man to intimidate and bully a smaller older guy. It's not about color, it's about being a punk. That's what these guys are and that's what the NBA is.

These players and "fans" have either been in prison or should be sent there so that's why they act this way. It is basically the convict mentality.

I know people who are big NBA fans but they don't resemble the thugs that have assumed ownership of the various venues that host the games.

Yes, Stern has some real problems. I wonder how some of these people get into games. MAybe some of them should be banned from arenas?

As fot the players, who they associate with should be of concern to the NBA. They should be fined for being anywhere near troble. The same for the NFL. If the Titan's player was at the scene of a shooting. Bang - hit him with a huge fine.

The only way these idiots will learn to stay away from trouble is to have to fork over their "hard earned" dough.

Next they should make them cover up all tatoos.

If they are going to be paid so well they really need to set an example that reflects what the NBA wants.

I have been to a few NBA All-Star Weekend's and I do not understand why it is being blown out of proportion but I will say that the police did not help I personally saw one incident that police could have helped calm down but they stood by and watched. As far as the gangs you can't blame that on the NBA because gangs have been in Vegas for years. Most of the problems that people are bringing up have been in Vegas for years. I personally think this was the best All Star weekend that I have been to and the reason people are being so hard on it is because there were a lot of young blacks with money. As far as Pac Man Jones he is a NFL player with a ton of problems and anything involving him should not reflect the NBA.

I happened to be in Houston last year when the All-Star game happened and I really never heard of any problems. Of course I wasnt in the middle of the action, I was there for work, but I dont remember hearing about any big problems or seeing any trouble at my hotel. There were a lot of people staying at my hotel who fit the stereotype discussed in the story, but they never caused any problems that I was aware of.

easeup47 the reason you didn't hear any bad reports was because there was nothing to report that was out of the ordinary. In fact reports have come out that there was only a slight increase in crime during NBA All Star weekend 2007 which was about the same as any other major event in Vegas. Then once you take in to consideration that it was Chinese New Year, President day weekend, All Star and 3 major conventions that help make this the biggest weekend in Vegas History it makes it even less out of the ordinary.
